This Policy applies solely to the Application — an interactive, client-side web application that presents the IUPAC standard Periodic Table of Elements with scientific data, search, and filtering functionality. This Policy does not apply to any third-party websites, services, or platforms that may be linked to or referenced by the Application.
The Application is designed and operates as a static, client-side tool. No server-side processing of user inputs occurs within the Application itself. All computation, filtering, and display logic executes exclusively within the User's browser environment.
We wish to be unequivocal: the Application does not collect, transmit, store, or otherwise process the following categories of information:
When you access the Application, your browser may transmit certain technical data as part of standard HTTP protocol operations to web servers hosting the Application. This may include:
This data is collected by the hosting infrastructure provider and is used exclusively for purposes of network security, abuse prevention, capacity planning, and aggregate statistical analysis. It is not linked to individual user identities and is not used for behavioral profiling or targeted advertising.
The Application loads typeface assets from Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com). When your browser requests these font files, Google's servers will receive your IP address and browser headers as part of that request. This constitutes a separate data processing interaction governed by Google LLC's Privacy Policy, over which we have no control. Users who wish to avoid this interaction may disable external font loading via browser settings or network-level controls.
The Application does not set, read, or utilize browser cookies of any kind — neither session cookies, persistent cookies, nor third-party cookies.
The Application does not utilize the browser's
localStorage, sessionStorage,
IndexedDB, or any other client-side persistent storage
mechanism for the purpose of tracking, identifying, or profiling
users.
Temporary, in-memory JavaScript state (such as the currently active filter or search query) is maintained solely within the active browser session and is irrevocably destroyed upon page closure or navigation away from the Application.
To the limited extent that aggregated, anonymized technical data is received by hosting infrastructure (as described in Section 3), such data is used exclusively for the following legitimate purposes:
We do not sell, rent, lease, license, or otherwise commercially exploit any data in connection with the Application. We do not use any data for behavioral advertising, cross-site tracking, or user profiling of any nature.
The Application integrates with the following third-party services, each subject to their own independent privacy policies:
Typeface resources served from fonts.googleapis.com, operated by Google LLC. Applicable privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy.
The Application may be hosted on third-party infrastructure (including but not limited to cloud hosting providers). Such providers may collect server log data as described in Section 3 pursuant to their own privacy policies.
We are not responsible for the privacy practices of any third-party service providers. We encourage Users to review the privacy policies of any third-party services they interact with in connection with their use of the Application.
The Application does not incorporate advertising networks, social media tracking pixels, affiliate tracking scripts, or behavioral analytics platforms.
As the Application does not collect personal data, there is no personal data to retain or delete on our part.
Server logs maintained by the hosting infrastructure provider are typically retained for a period of up to ninety (90) days for security and operational purposes, after which they are permanently deleted. The specific retention period may vary based on the policies of the applicable hosting provider.
The Application is an educational reference tool suitable for users of all ages, including children under the age of thirteen (13). Consistent with the requirements of the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and applicable international laws, the Application is designed to be fully compliant with children's privacy requirements by virtue of its fundamental architecture: it does not collect, use, or disclose personal information from any user, regardless of age.
Parents and guardians who have concerns regarding this Application's interaction with data pertaining to minors are encouraged to contact us using the information provided in Section 13.
The Application is accessible globally. Users located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, Switzerland, and other jurisdictions with data protection legislation should be aware of the following:
To the extent that any personal data is processed in connection with use of the Application (e.g., IP addresses received by server infrastructure), the lawful basis for such processing is our legitimate interest in maintaining the security and operational integrity of the Application (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). Such processing is minimal, transient, and proportionate to those interests.
The Application does not sell personal information. California residents have the right to request disclosure of personal information collected about them. Given the Application's privacy-by-design architecture, no personal information beyond transient server logs exists to disclose.
Users in jurisdictions with applicable data protection legislation who have concerns about cross-border data transfers arising from the use of third-party services (such as Google Fonts) should consult those services' respective privacy policies and consider the technical countermeasures referenced in Section 3.
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have certain rights with respect to your personal data, including rights of access, rectification, erasure, portability, restriction of processing, and the right to object to processing. Given that the Application does not maintain personal data records associated with individual users, the practical exercise of most of these rights is either moot or cannot be fulfilled through identification mechanisms (as we have no means of associating server log entries with specific individuals).
You may exercise the following practical choices at any time:
We implement reasonable and appropriate technical and organizational security measures to protect the Application and any incidentally processed data against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These measures include, but are not limited to, secure transmission protocols (HTTPS/TLS), restricted administrative access to hosting infrastructure, and periodic security reviews.
However, no method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is completely secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security. In the unlikely event of a security incident affecting personal data, we will notify affected parties and relevant authorities as required by applicable law.
We reserve the right to modify this Policy at any time to reflect changes in legal requirements, technical practices, or operational procedures. Material changes will be notified to Users through one or more of the following mechanisms:
Your continued use of the Application after the effective date of any modification constitutes your acceptance of the revised Policy. If you do not agree to the revised Policy, you must discontinue use of the Application.
We encourage Users to periodically review this Policy to remain informed of how we protect their privacy.
